With advancement in technology such as machine learning and automation we will see significant job losses that would be difficult to replace.
With a large unemployed and some unemployable (skill sets of today do not conform to future needs) individuals the government and society will have to assist people as that would be the humane thing to do.
The only way we would be able to assist is through providing ongoing financial assistance, which pushes us to become more of a socialist country. To note I am not advocating for this at all, but I don’t see the U.S. forming a solution to the problem and more recently due to Covid-19 we are seeing this redistribution of wealth and payments to individuals come true.
The other reason I believe this will occur is just natural progression, which you can be seen with European Countries that have 100+ years on the United States and are majority socialist.
